Jessica Turner is a Lecturer in the Department of Software Engineering at The University of Waikato, Tauranga, New Zealand. She completed a BCMS(Hons) and PhD in Computer Science at the UoW Hamilton campus.

Her research interests are in the area of formal methods and human computer interaction, however, her primary motivation is in technology which will have a positive impact on everyday life. Recent projects include: improving modelling and understanding of traffic congestion in the Bay of Plenty (BoP) area in collaboration with Priority One; investigating a model-driven development technique for IoT systems which can be used for smart city development; and exploring the development of software in a sensitive context by creating a module-based learning environment for at-home carers with Lake Taupō Hospice.

Jessica enjoys working in the BoP region, made easier by having such wonderful students. She looks forward to seeing the effect having a university campus in Tauranga has and hopes to see an increase in local talent as well as research-led solutions to regional issues.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and can often be found helping out with their DIY projects.
